Research: Online Service Provider Assessment Project: Methodology: Accounts and Access Levels

Set up accounts at all of the possible access levels and configurations. For example, for one online service provider you might set up accounts at five access levels, with email either accessible or not accessible and, if accessible, filtered or not filtered.

When choosing usernames, pick a variety of names that a reasonable person might use so that when using these usernames to subscribe to email lists, the moderators of the lists do not reject subscription requests because they seem suspiciously alike or obscene.

As a separate and additional test using an entirely different account, create usernames from list of category G, category H, category I, and category J words to see if any are rejected (see Appendix D: Word Lists). Note: this activity may result in cancellation of the account.
