Research: Online Service Provider Assessment Project: Methodology: Technology
Investigate and briefly summarize the technology used by the online service provider
for filtering or otherwise restricting access to content. Note any issues related to
installation or configuration of the system that may provide opportunities for security
pitfalls, as well as any inherent biases built into the technology, such as higher
likelihood of blocking web pages that contain more content. Make sure to note any
scoring or categorization schemes the filtering technology uses for blocking web sites
or keywords. If known, also mention any monitoring or logging capabilities provided or
used by the online service provider.
If the online service provider uses a technology provided by another company, mention
that fact along with a reference to any document covering assessment of that underlying
technology. Make sure to note any evidence of customization of the underlying
technology by the online service provider.
